Coroner Hadden, however, said he was confused by the toxicology. The Coroner’s office then hired renowned forensic toxicologist, Alphonse Polklis, who confirmed Dr. Siu’s selenium poisoning conclusion. Nevertheless, Hadden pressured Dr. Siu to come to a different conclusion saying that a poisoning conclusion would put him in a “very difficult situation.” Click to read Affidavit. Hadden then paid non-toxicologists to provide a contrary opinion. Hadden then wrote a letter stating that even though the pathologist in-charge concluded in the County autopsy report that Linda was poisoned, he was filing Linda’s death certificate as “undetermined;” and refused to request a criminal investigation. Moreover, in violation of the Attorney General’s Death Investigation Guidelines, he would not allow his deputy coroner’s to conduct any inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Linda’s death. Loralee Cervantes was elected and replaced Hadden. Coroner Cervantes reviewed the case and amended Linda’s Death Certificate to be consistent with the conclusions of her medical experts -- “Acute Selenium Toxicity.”
